Senator Exum's Response to the Gazette News Article dated August 12, 2010
I am a respected member of my community, who for more than 50 years has run and worked in effective, morally responsible grassroots political campaigns. As a lifetime member of the NAACP, I was privileged to participate in the recent community forum sponsored by the local chapter of the historic civil rights organization. I was surprised by The Gazette headline of August 12th: "District 24 Candidates Display Cold Shoulders at NAACP Forum."
I regret that Delegate JoAnne Benson was a recent victim of vandalism and I refute any innuendo that I, in any way, was a party in it. I have fought to improve the quality of life for all Prince Georgians and ridding our community of crime is certainly among my priority areas of concern.
I have served this community for well over thirty years in the Maryland General Assembly. I am running a strong and clean race, based on my record and reputation for "Delivering Effective and Committed Leadership" as a servant of all of the people in the 24th Legislative District (including my constituent, Delegate Benson.)
I have dedicated my entire life to serving my GOD, my family, and my community. My reputation as a citizen of this community is that of honesty and respect. I serve my community in many capacities, all of which I am very proud. I stand on my record of hard work, and dedication to serve the residents of my district, through meaningful legislation at the state level where I have consistently provided sound fiscal planning for our community in terms of jobs, programs, educational enhancements and other economic opportunities that support our growth as a community. I continue to ask the residents of the 24th Legislative District to remain active and engaged in our community and encourage them to voe on September 14th.
